Over the course of March 18th-20th sixteen selected seniors traveled to Camp Fitch to counsel Jackson-Milton’s fifth graders. These seniors submitted applications and were selected by Officer Ruse, Principal Welch, and the attending fifth grade teachers. The criteria was good leadership skills, strong community involvement, and a willingness to work outside and with children. The selected counselors were Nate Craver, Anthony Chance, Connor Cole, Brock Piatt, Jack McDevitt, Caden Ruby, Jackson Horner, Eli Handrych, Trinity Mirante, Tiffany Tingler, Katie Byers, Peyton Ford, Abby Bueno, Charlie Saunders, Lilly Roach, and Joy Mohr. They arrived to camp on Wednesday afternoon, unload the campers luggage, and immediately began activities.
Although the weather was far from ideal, the senior counselors did a wonderful job at getting involved and staying positive. Throughout the three day experience they assisted the campers as they participated in horseback riding, rock wall climbing, outdoor cooking, archery, crafts and more! The counselors also bunked with the campers and were in charge of managing their schedule, activities, and safety throughout the trip. Overall, both the campers and counselors had a great experience and spent quality time outside of the classroom representing Jackson-Milton in a positive manner.
Officer Ruse stated, “I was very proud of the counselors and thought they did a great job.”
Charlie Saunders said, “Being a counselor was so fun. I enjoyed the time away from school, with my friends, and counseling the kids.”
Abby Bueno remarked, “It was a great experience and I’m really thankful I got to go!”
Camp Fitch is a fun tradition the students and counselors look forward to every year!
