This year for each event in track & field for coaching Abbey Fishtorn coaches sprint and jumps, Mike Sheehy coaches distance and Rick Stout coaches throwing. The team prepares for track & field by a lot of endurance, speed and strength training to get the athletes ready for the season.’
The highlights of this year from track & field include: Lind’nardo Hines breaking the school record in the 200m with a time of 23.03! The team had a number of high place finishes by a number of athletes throughout the season. The following athletes made it to Districts: Josh Theis, Prentiss Fishtorn, Antione Lumpkin, Ian Flower, Liz Devlin, Austin Hovanec, Nora Schwarten, Kalia Morris, Gavin Murphy, Abby Bueno, Peyton Flower, and Nate Craver. Track & Field is individual and the team place finishes.
Coach Fishtorn stated, “We are very proud of the improvements seen across the whole team this season. We graduated a lot of talented seniors so we had a lot of big shoes to fill and the team is doing a great job and stepping in those roles.”
The boys team advanced the 4×800 relay team which finished in 4th. Running in the relay was Nate Craver, Josh Theis, Landon Fortunato, and Ben Bacorn. Throwers Austin Lynn and Gavin Murphy both advance to regionals. Austin threw a PR of 135′ in Disc to snag a 3rd place spot. Gavin also threw a PR of 42’11” to grab 4th place in Shot.
For the girls, Prentiss Fishtorn threw a PR of 110’2 to land her the District Runner Up spot. In addition to advancing to Regionals, Prentiss has also earned an automatic qualifying spot at the New Balance Nationals in Philadelphia in June.
Maya Carder & Lind’Nardo Hines both had great District meets placing in multiple events. Maya ran new PRs in both the 100 & 200 placing 7th in both. Lind’Nardo finished 5th in both the 100 and 200 just off the qualifying spots.
