Key Club is a service based club made up of voluntary students who want to give back and get involved. This year’s key club members have worked together on service and volunteering events and activities that helped and supported the school and other organizations. The director of the key club is Abbey Fishtorn, the president is Abby Bueno, and the event leaders are Amani Yasin and Prentiss Fishtorn.
Mrs. Fishtorn states that the members have learned, “how to work with special groups of people, how to plan events, how to manage a concession stand and manage money.” Whether the members were helping out at school events or volunteering their time to help out the community, they have learned the importance of helping others and the joy that comes with it.
President Abby Bueno states, “I’ve learned how to organize projects, share my passion with others, and create opportunities that leave lasting impacts. It has taught me that leading isn’t always about being in charge- it’s about supporting, empowering, and inspiring others to make a difference in their community.”
During the year, Key Club has helped out at many fun events. These events include the North Jackson Citizens Association, The Lake Milton American Legion, Purple Cat (Adults with Disabilities), Kiwanis Club, Lake Milton Women’s Association, the JMES PTA, and The American Red Cross.
President Abby Bueno states, “My favorite community service project was volunteering with the Purple Cat foundation for their Thanksgiving dinner and dance. It was so fun seeing everyone come together and celebrate the things that they are grateful for.”
Key club is an inspiring club that can bring joy to not only you but to the people around you. Mrs. Fishtorn states that her favorite part of key club is, “Getting to work with different students outside of school. Many of the most active members of Key Club are not the usual athletes I work with as the Athletic Director or Track Coach. So it’s nice to see different students in a more casual atmosphere when we head out into the community to help with events.”
