Andrea Bosnjak from the Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio gave presentations on the dangers of vaping to Mrs. Morelli’s grade 9 and grade 12 classes. The program also took place in Mrs. Heestand’s and Mrs. Reyes’ classes as well. Ms. Downs arranged for the presentation to take place in multiple rooms throughout the last few weeks so all students would be able to benefit from this knowledge. Students completed surveys, participated in question and answer sessions, and played a game at the end to make sure the information was retained. This is one of the many valuable events that take place in the building to keep our students safe and informed.
In the JMHS vaping program, Mrs. Bosnjak comes into the high school and middle classes and talks about vaping. It is based on helping students to better themselves and their health. She comes in to help students and she talks to students about their positions in life and their stability and also their decisions in what they put in their bodies.
At JMHS they have a vaping program for students to help them learn about the different things they put in their bodies and why they’re bad for you. It focuses on how one can be impacted along with others around them watching a loved one go down that path. It shows other people how how teachers really do pay attention to students’ health, not just their school work or grades.
Usually, the middle of the first 9 weeks of the new school year is when this program takes place. High school and middle school students think differently of this program because it can mean different things for students. Students may not want to worry about these dangers when they still have an entire childhood ahead of them, but they know it is important to learn about these possibilities to avoid them.
The vaping program takes place in every day classrooms, but it takes place during a class time so usually a teacher pauses that day to have that program presented. Teachers and office social workers of the school have organized this program because it is helpful for student health and teachers want to go home daily knowing they helped someone learn something.
Ms. Downs says, “It’s a program organized for students because it is a very important topic just like all of the rest of them. All programs are important.”
Meka Heiss, who is a student in ninth grade says, “It is a program that taught me a lot about vaping and made me realize to never touch one in life.”
