In the marching band so many kids get selected to join an honors band for colleges around our school. The kids that were selected for this event were: Delaney Crytzer, Lorelei Bayer, Miah Tomaino, Joy Mohr, Abigail Hochendoner, Blake Hochendoner, Prentiss Fishtorn, Nicholas Rotuna, Maddie Humphrey, and Josie Bayer.
The marching band has a night dedicated to just them to show off their work from the past couple months. The band night took place at Mineral Ridge on September 13th and Waterloo also hosted one on October 18th. All band members performed at this event. This night is very important to the band, especially the seniors. The seniors this year are a very memorable group of people.
Mr. Penfound grew up with these seniors. Mr. Penfound came to this school and practically grew up with them and seeing them go definitely is hard. He has trust in them, considering he’s seen their potential and watched them grow as students, so having confidence in them as leaders is surely an easy job for Mr. Penfound. The seniors put in a lot of effort, but so do the rest of the band participants. The band goes to band camp, and consistently works throughout the whole season to see improvements in their band performances. One of the most memorable nights of this band season 2025 was when the wind was blowing aggressively and their instruments started playing a sound, this sound wasn’t a typical band sound it was a sound that no one really hears from the band instrument. Everyone started playing it and it gave everyone a good memory.
“These seniors’ first year of marching band was my first year at JM. We’ve sort of grown up together, from a smaller 22 member marching band – where half of the band was drumline, to now, a band of 50. This is not possible to happen without the leadership from students who have been there from the beginning.” – Mr. Penfound
“One of the most memorable moments this season was in our third game of the season. Something unlocked in the wind players, and they started producing a sound that I have never heard from the JMJMB, nor from many other marching bands. Everyone was participating in the truly powerful sound that was happening, ultimately showing everyone what kind of sound can happen when we support one another.” – Mr. Penfound
