Jackson-Milton awards have been handed out to students for many years. Awards can be given to students who succeed in sports, academics, or both. There are many different types of awards that high school students can receive.

Lettering in a sport is a great sign of athleticism in Jackson-Milton. Every sport is different, and the student has to work hard and compete to earn a letter. Students can letter each year throughout their high school career.

The Billy Patton award is an award given to male athlete. This is announced at the spring banquet and is given to the most outstanding male athlete in the senior class. The award is based off of other awards, success in the sport(s), grades, and leadership skills the male has. The first award ever given was in 1948 to Bob Winterburn.

The Tiffany Obradovich award is the outstanding senior female athlete. This award is also given out at the spring banquet after all sports for the year have been completed. This award is also based off of academics, previous awards, and success in the sport(s), grades, and leadership skills. The first time this award was ever given out was in 1977 to Lynore Kollat.

A football award that is well known at Jackson-Milton is the Ed Milo award. The football players vote in a secret poll to pick the recipient of this award. They must choose someone who excels in leadership and athletic skill. “He shall be a man of character, a team player, and one who earns the respect of his teammates by example both on and off the field.” This award was first given to Rick Watson in 1971.

Awards at Jackson-Milton go back years before students in the senior class were born. The history behind them and stories that are told reveal just how special and meaningful the awards were in the past. Winning the same awards today that were given out years ago still has the same impact on students today.
