Christmas: Traditions and Wishlists

Samantha Metts, Staff Writer

There are many different Christmas traditions that families and religions have during this holiday season. Many examples include making a ham or turkey for Christmas day, decorating a Christmas tree together as family, visiting different Christmas lights in different neighborhoods, watching the ABC “25 days of Christmas,” and one last thing that is common in families that have younger children is “Elf on the Shelf.”  The Elf on a Shelf is a story and doll that is from the North Pole.  It is introduced at the start of Advent to keep a watchful eye on the children and make sure they belong on Santa’s “nice” list.

Different students and staff members shared what their favorite Christmas traditions were:

  • Courtney Macphee and her family cut down a real Christmas tree every year.
  • Mrs Morelli’s Christmas tradition is she makes everything from scratch waffles for breakfast and a pot of homemade sauce for dinner, they stay in their pjs and watch Christmas movies all day.
  • Tyler Phillips goes over to both sets of grandparents’ houses on Christmas Eve.

The most wanted Christmas gifts this year for most little kids were the movie “Frozen” and related toys or a tablet or IPad.

Most young teenagers and high school-aged students asked for more expensive items like North face coats, UGG Boots, Bearpaws boots, Miss Me Jeans, or the newest IPhone, etc.

Many adults asked for Fit Bits (a fitness device that tracks your exercise), a new member to their family like a puppy/ kitten, or some may have even got a new car.

Whatever was on your list this year, remember it is also just as important to give as it is to receive.  Donate your time and effort to make the holiday enjoyable for those around you.
