Snow Days and 2-hour delays

Mason Mercer, Staff Writer

In the state of Ohio the state has five school days that are allowable to be missed due to snow or other weather related occurrences. The snow days and two hour delays are determined by the amount of snowfall, if the buses can start in the cold, and the temperature it is outside.

With winter coming kids are looking forward to missing more school and getting longer breaks. 2-hr delays are something common here in northeast Ohio, closing are rare but are still there.  Kids enjoy these days because they give them time to relax, sleep in, and if cancelled just not come to school.

If they get the day off they can catch up on any school work that they might not have done. Also they could go have fun out in the snow if they’re younger they can go play maybe sled, others could possibly snowboard or ski.  With the 2-hr delays they can sleep in and they can wake up better rested and can learn better at a later time.

With teens driving, the closings and delays can benefit them and their families on bad days. The 2-hr delay can give road crews a chance to clean off and clear the roads for kids to drive. Also, the closings can give the kids a day off and keep them from driving in dangerous conditions on the roads.

All around the closings and delays can benefit kids in more ways than just one.  They can rest better, get work done, or keep them save from getting in an accident on a bad day.
