Competitive Lifting Class is worth the “weight”

At Jackson-Milton High School, extra-curricular sports are very popular. The classes offered during the school day are very classroom textbook oriented, other than a few physical education classes and basketball. Because of this, the school has taken a step into the competitive direction, and has created a Competitive Lifting program for students to join. The health teacher at the high school, Mrs. Hulett, teaches many students this class, and says that staying fit is a very important part of students’ lives. In this class, students can follow a lifting program designed by Hulett to work different muscles throughout the week. Students can also “free lift” if there is something they would like to work on themselves.

A member of the class, Tyler Phillips, states, “I’ve enjoyed the class so far this year, I’ve learned lots of new lifts that I actually have never done before during other sports.” Phillips plays football for Jackson-Milton and says that there is a lot of lifts in the class that he thinks the football team can ‘pick up’ on to start working them into their lifting program. After just one semester and earning an entire credit (1.0), the benefits from the class seem to be never ending.
