English Festival 2019-20

This year English Festival consists of many books this year. All books can be used for Candice Gay Memorial Essay Contest, Jeremy Salvner Music Contest, Festival Art contest, and the Graphic Essay Contest. The event takes place on Friday, April 24th, 2020 at Youngstown State University Campus. An $8 fee is required and money must be also brought in for lunch, or students can pack a lunch. The buses will take the students to the campus at 8:30 a.m and they should return at approximately 4:15 p.m to be picked up by a parent/guardian.

The 7th through 9th grade reading list consists of: Babe Conquers the World: The Legendary Life of Babe Didrikson, Zaharias by Rich Wallace and Sandra Neil Wallace, Between the Lines: How Ernie Barnes Went from the Football Field to the Art Gallery by Sandra Neil Wallace, Bounded by Ice a True North Pole Survival Story by Sandra Neil Wallace and Rich Wallace, Gone Crazy in Alabama by Rita Williams-Garcia, The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, Hey, Kiddo by Jarret J. Krosoczka,  and Flying Lessons & Other Stories by Ellen Oh.

The 10th through 12th grade English Festival books are: Between the Lines: How Ernie Barnes Went from the Football Field to the Art Gallery by Sandra Neil Wallace, Bounded by Ice a True North Pole Survival Story by Sandra Neil Wallace and Rich Wallace, Wrestling Sturbridge by Rich Wallace, Jumped by Rita Williams-Garcia, Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo, Hey, Kiddo by Jarret J. Krosoczka, Dreamland Burning by Jennifer Latham, and Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds.

My personal experiences at English Festival vary year to year. It is a good experience to meet new people and make friends, learn more about the books we read, meet authors and ask them questions. The campus event offers a lot for students to do and participate in and  is overall tons of fun. If I would have known about how much fun it was earlier, I would have joined in Middle School.
