The JM Middle School Spelling Bee took place on December 21, 2017 at 9 am in the middle school/high school cafeteria. Katie Campbell was the champion of the 2017-2018 middle school Spelling Bee and Rachel Bailey was runner up. Katie will continue on, and go to Youngstown State University, on March 2, 2018 in the Chestnut Room at Kilkawly and compete there. Every one of the kids that participated in the Spelling Bee worked for weeks leading up to it, going over words daily to get ready for the competition.

A Spelling Bee, is a competition in which one person competes to win by spelling the greatest number of word correctly. They had to spell various words and after each round there would be a more difficult level of words for them to spell. It would go on until there was only one person left. To win they had to spell the last word right.

Ms. Vanessa Tortora was the teacher that was in charge of the Spelling Bee, she put it all together. Ms. Vanessa Tortora said, “All the students enjoyed it.”

In grade 7th the spellers were, Makayleigh Aliff, Rachel Bailey, Elias Bray, Katie Campbell, Adalee Evans, Angela Jones, Jonathan Lanham, Denver Taylor, Justin Whitacre. The 8th grade spellers were, Nick Dolak, Jake Gross. We would like to send a big congratulations to everyone who competed in the spelling bee.
