Blue Jay Wrestling 2016-2017

The Jackson – Milton wrestling team has always been a powerhouse and brings a lot to the table. This year we should expect nothing different. They are looking to have a successful season and show other teams what they are made of.
On December 3rd and 4th, the Blue Jays wrestled in a tournament in Solon. Nick Scarl earned 6th place and Nick Vergallito earned 8th place in their weight classes. This tournament always bring tough competition with over 20 teams. This is a great accomplishment for both wrestlers!
The wrestling team opened their season a few weeks ago at home. They got to show off their new mats to the community and the wrestlers were happy to have them.
On December 8th the Blue Jays wrestled Brookfield and Edgewood in a tri – meet. In the matchup, Evan Mitchell and Nick Vergallito both pinned an opponent for extra points to help the Jays win. Here are the results:
JM beat Brookfield 49-15; JM lost to Edgewood 36-24
The Jays also recently wrestled in our home tournament and really brought a lot to the table to give our home crowd something to be proud about. Here are the results for member that placed:

January 21,22 the blue Jays wrestled in the Josh Hephner Invitational the wrestlers competed at Austintown High School.

There were 28 teams at the tournament, this is a huge accomplishment for these two wrestlers.
The boys also competed against Liberty and winning their matches were Jeremy Seka, Ryan Staton, Anthony Pizzuto, Nick Vergallito, Nick Scarl, and John Landis.
On Saturday, February 4th our high school wrestlers competed in the EOWL, league championships, at Fitch. Also at this event, Bill Jeffries, a former Athletic Director and teacher at Jackson – Milton, was inducted in the Hall of Fame, this ceremony began at 4:15. Anthony Pizzuto finished in 6th place in his weight class.
All of the high school wrestlers and middle school wrestlers went to Berkshire on February 7th for a wrestling meet at 6:00 PM.
The varsity wrestlers attended Jefferson High School on Wednesday February 15th.
The wrestlers have recently been working hard and getting ready for the OHSAA wrestling tournament that will start on the 25th of February. This is a one day sectional with our wrestlers hoping to finish in the top 4 of their bracket to advance to the next level of the state tournament.
