It’s the first day of school!

Michael Spencer, Staff Writer

The first day of school at Jackson-Milton High School is always full of energy, as it is at many other schools. All of the Jackson-Milton students were very excited to get back to school and to see their friends and the teachers that they did not see all summer.  Many new faces were at school, but also many faces left to go to MCCTC.

All of the new faces required the school counselor, Mrs. Wiery, to manage the scheduling. She had to create new schedules for the new students and make sure she was not putting them in classes that they did not need to take. Besides making schedules for the new students, Mrs. Wiery also had a lot of students who already created their schedule last year and wanted to change classes.

The students were traveling the school throughout the day saying “hello” to their previous teachers.  For some students, such as the freshmen coming into the high school, exploring new areas of the school was first on their list.  Here at Jackson-Milton, the freshmen are welcomed to the high school side because the upperclassmen want to see them be successful.  With Jackson-Milton being a smaller school, students try their best to support one another.

All in all, in Jackson-Milton the first day and first week of school is often a challenge for Mrs. Wiery and the office crew. Mrs. Wiery does a great job of getting all of the students the schedule they need so they can succeed.
