With winter drawing to a close, the Jackson-Milton spring sports are busy preparing for their upcoming seasons. The baseball team has been battling the weather, only being able to go outside a couple days.

The team is led by head coach, Kevin Hogue and assistant coach, Matt Ruby. With only one senior, Sebastian Lay, the team is looking for underclassmen to step up and play at the Varsity level. Last season the baseball team graduated 5 senior starters: Noah Laster, Johnathon Voland, Scott Mitchell, Zach Socha, Eric Ostrowski. During the 2016 and 2017 seasons these players won two league titles and competed in the district tournament.

Recently the baseball team had their first scrimmage of the season. The scrimmage was hosted in Kentucky where the Blue Jays played against the East Michigan team in Sandusky. With so many underclassmen starting, the Blue Jays were off to a rough start. But after they became more comfortable in their positions the talent on the field began to show. They have a second scrimmage on Tuesday, March 20th. It is a home scrimmage against the Windham Varsity team.

Sophomore, Joey Williams said, “I am looking forward to the season. We hope to win another league title this season and are working hard to accomplish this goal.” The season begins on Saturday, March 26 with the season opener game.
