Lady Jays Basketball

After battling it out against some tough opponents such as Western Reserve, Waterloo, Springfield and many others the Lady Jays came out on top with a 13-0 record. For the next two weeks the Lady Jays will endure much more adversity to finish out their regular season. They will play lowellville at their home court with jv starting at 5:30, varsity will follow. Shortly after that the Lady Jays will play Mineral Ridge at Jackson Milton with jv starting at 5:30 and varsity will follow. This season the girl’s basketball team is pushing to make it farther than they have before. Senior Emily Williams explains, “Everyone pushes each other in practice so we can play better every game.” “We all want to make it far into districts and beyond.” Sophomore Courtney Mercer states. Last year the Lady Jays made it to regional finals where they were defeated by Birland Hiland. This year though they would like to make it farther. With their record of 13-0 the Lady Jays are ranked in the top ten in the state of Ohio division four Girl’s basketball.  The home game against our rivals Western Reserve ended 58-52 in overtime. The away game against Waterloo finished with a score of 36-33. Overall the Lady Jays have been working hard throughout their season.

The Girls basketball team has had a fantastic year thus far. They have only 2 losses, and 19 wins. They have had one of the  best years that jackson milton’s basketball program has ever seen. The girls have had 2 outstanding seniors that have put all their effort into the sport. Michaelina Terranova and Emily Williams have been the most positive and have been dedicating everything to the sport and team. They love the sport, they both have been playing it since they were little. Michaelina and Emily both exclaim, “Looking into the tournament, we are watching film on hudl, making adjustments to be the best we possibly can, and fix small errors that we struggle with offensively and defensively, and lastly we cannot wait to see what our future holds in the tournament which is right around the corner.” Melissa Williams, the girls JV and Varsity coach adds, “I am very proud of our 3 seniors, they have put all their effort into this season. They all love the sport with all their hearts. I am very excited to where this season will lead us, and how far these 3 seniors will take us. We have a great chance of making Jackson-Milton history this year.”

The Jackson-Milton Lady Jays take on tournament time after a 21-2 regular season record.  The Lady Jays lost to McDonald and Columbiana in the regular season. Moving on to tournament time the Jays put in extra time and work to prepare for the semi-final game against Valley Christian.  Senior Michaelina Terranova says, “I think we have finally started playing the game like we should be and I am excited to play Valley Christian in the district semi-final.”

The Jays played at Mineral Ridge and both teams put on a show.  With the crowd going wild and bodies diving on the floor the Jays lost a long and hard battle. Wednesday night the Lady Jays fall to Valley Christian with a final score of 45-53. Throughout the game the Jays were down 4 points and couldn’t seem to make a come back. Fighting a long and hard season the Lady Jays had an outstanding season record of 21-3.  Many students came out to support at Mineral Ridge. Next year for the Jays they will be losing three starters.  The Lady Jays have nothing to hang their heads about and have had an outstanding season overall.
