New League, Same hard-working Blue Jays

Joseph Williams, Staff Writer

The new league, MVAC, is new, but keeps qualities like the older blue tier ITCL league. There are overall 8 teams, including Jackson-Milton, Lowellville, McDonald, Mineral Ridge, Sebring, Springfield, Waterloo, and Western Reserve.

Six teams, Jackson-Milton, Lowellville, McDonald, Mineral Ridge, Sebring, and Western Reserve were all in the Blue Tier league. There isn’t a big difference is the league, but here are a few improvements and differences.

Instead of South Range being involved, Waterloo was merged in. Waterloo was in the Portage Trail Conference, since 2005. The older ITCL league split up into 2 different leagues, the Columbiana schools creating a league of 7 teams. The league is called EOAC.

MVAC is adding Western Reserve and Springfield, which are two division winners from last year. The league will be pretty intense and competitive, but fun. Having schools that have good teams make great competition and make the games fun. The best games are the closest ones, when you need a touchdown to win or a 3-pointer to take you into overtime.

Mr. Kevin Hogue states, “The new league is made up of several members of the old ITCL blue tier, and adding Springfield and Waterloo.” The addition of the two teams is great for the league, so there are plenty enough games throughout the season. Mr. Hogue includes, “League design was done by art departments from league schools.” The league wasn’t just thrown together, it was fully thought out to be the most effective and competitive.

Furthermore, Mr. Hogue concludes, “We look forward to staying a league a long time.” Mr. Hogue looks forward to an excellent year of sporting events.
