Surviving the cold and flu season

Justin Rentz, Staff Writer

The cold and flu season is the time of year when a lot of people seem to be getting colds and even having fevers.  With the weather being so cold, a lot of people will begin to have runny noses and coughs.  Those runny noses and coughs are enough to make a person stay home from school or work if they are feeling that unwell.

Knowing that the season is coming means that there are things that need to be done in preparation. If you know it is going to be a cold day, you should make sure that you are appropriately dressed for the weather.  Being dressed for the weather usually means wearing a winter coat, gloves, a hat, and even a scarf if necessary. Keeping yourself warm can help you stay away from the runny noses.

When you do actually get a cold, it is important to make sure you take care of it as soon as possible. That means taking medicine and not interacting with other people.  Drink plenty of fluids and eat healthy foods.  Wash your hands frequently with soap.  Cough into your shoulder and sneeze into a Kleenex.  I’m sure other people will not appreciate getting your sickness.  All you need to know is that you need to take care of your cold or flu the right way. You may even have to go to a doctor but that is okay if you get better sooner.
