College in high school gives JM students an educational edge

Terry Stockton, Staff Writer

College in High School (CHS) classes are now becoming available to the high school students. Here at Jackson-Milton, there are several CHS classes being offered to the students. Through Youngstown State University, students are offered the Diversity in American Literature and Writing I classes. Also, students are offered Psychology, Sociology, and Government, all of which are through Eastern Gateway Community College. These classes provide high school students college credit upon completion for free, unless they fail the course. There are many supporters to these classes throughout the high school, ranging from students to teachers.

The CHS Diversity in American Literature and Writing I classes teacher, Mrs. Yantes, says, “CHS classes are absolutely wonderful. The less money a student has to pay in college, the better off they are.” Mrs. Yantes is an avid supporter of CHS classes and promotes them to the students at Jackson-Milton.

Anthony Italiano, a current CHS student says, “These classes are a great way to get ahead in life.” Italiano joined the CHS classes he is available to take at Jackson-Milton to get a part of college done before he even steps foot on a college campus.
