The Jackson-Milton varsity track and field team has competed in their twelve week season with a multitude of personal bests and high standing placements. After a long indoor season starting in December, athletes Nora Schwarten, Ryen Romigh, and Lucas Sokol competed at the state level in Geneva at the Spire Institute, bringing the team back with many achievements. The track team has competed in county, league, relay meets, and hosted a handful of their own quad meets on the new track and stadium.
This year’s seniors include Ryen Romigh, Anthony Hawksley, Nickolas Kovacic, Vincent Fay, Lucas Sokol, Alex Lipp, Ethan Kerr, and Brady Cole. As the track team rounds off their season with the district meet held at Springfield High School, the athletes plan to place in the top four for a chance to race at the regional meet in the weeks following. If an athlete is able to advance from regionals, they will race at the state meet on the Jesse Owens track in Columbus.
The track team has also participated in activities such as team bonding where they went bowling at Camelot Lanes, and also had team dinner after playing in their annual kickball game against the middle school track team.
Although the track team is distinguished in throwing, jumping, and running, the boys team was able to earn the most points at the Bob Sternagle relay meet hosted by their own rival school Western Reserve, and take home first place. While the girls team has a total of seven athletes, their season has been highly successful by winning in an abundance of events and continuing to proudly represent the Jackson-Milton school district.
