Prom Promise Spirit Week has been an ongoing event to help prevent bad decisions during/after prom. SADD sponsors this event each year. Advisers Mrs. Morelli and Mrs. Reyes enlist the help of Officer Ruse to help these events take place. Officers are involved each day with planning and preparations. Officers include: Caitlin Carnes, Joy Mohr, Olivia Newhard, and Charlotte Lard.
Spirit days help encourage this in a fun and safe way that reaches the whole school for participating. On Monday, the theme was Mismatch, putting a spin on twin day. The whole point was to be opposites with how the person you choose to be your twin. Tuesday was College Day, wearing gear from your favorite college or for the seniors the one you’re committing to next year. Wednesday was dressed as your favorite season. Thursday was Career day, bringing the theme of a bright future made with good decisions Saturday night at prom. Lastly, Friday was Black Out, to black out good decisions and have a fun and positive prom night!
Not only did the school do spirit days, but SADD held different events during the day and lunch to show dangers of various bad choices.
Caty Carnes claims, “It’s so important to be aware of making good decisions. Through the drunk driving simulator, it shows how dangerous drunk driving is and how important it is to stay sober.”
SADD members and officers helped out as well with making sure students were involved and understood the dangers of driving under the influence.
Advisor Mrs. Reyes says about the experience, “We sponsor the activities to bring awareness to distracted driving and the consequences that could happen. We incorporate the drunk goggles because no one should be driving that way, especially students since it is illegal not only to drive inebriated but it is illegal to drink alcohol for minors. The students like to participate in the activities to experience a safe way to see how being distracted can impact someone.”
Prom Promise week was wildly successful, and we hope all students had a great time at prom with the teachings the week prior!
