The Jr/Sr trade program is a program that helps students with getting knowledge on carpenters trade to an apprentice level. The students that are in the class are Dylan Hovanec, Keegan White, Jase Greco, Nolan McCabe,Jaden Scott, Jaidyn Henry, Logan Figinsky, and Bock Piatt. They complete projects that are helping them with exploring the tools and the other equipment and also increasing skills through real life applications. Some students in this class are in a contest where they have to bring this something that they build and have other people judge their work, if they win then they can win $1,000.
The reason that Mr. Weidnthal said, “I wanted to start doing this because carpenter’s work is both a hobby and passion of mine.” This is showing that he is trying to show other students one of his hobbies to see if they would like it. He has been a part of a Laborers Union that is located out of the local 953. He has done this as long as he has been a teacher, meaning he has done this for 13 years. This program is also helping students with a different career path for their high school life. This program is a hands-on activity meaning that this can help students to succeed more through their experiences. There are 4 juniors and also 6 seniors that are in this program. This program was already going on in the school for 3 years and just now started to gain more people this year as Mr. Weidenthal has taken over.
Mr Weidnthal also says, “The goal is to give students skills for life.”
This is showing that the goal for this program is to give student skills they can use in their future careers and later in life. Some of the projects that they complete are Adirondack chairs, birdhouses, wooden flags, shop tables, or anything to do with needed projects with school.
