The Jackson-Milton High School varsity and junior varsity teams both had a great season. The varsity coach is Jeff Wilson, the assistant coach is Madison Cauffield, and the JV coach is Mike Sheely. The varsity team went 3-5 in their conference and 6-8 for their overall season.
The varsity coach, Jeff Wilson, stated, “The girls have really improved from last season; they work together well, and with gaining more girls, there has been a large amount of progress, and I am looking forward to the future to see where these ladies go.”
During this season, the girls toughest matchup was against the Mineral Ridge Rams, where they fought hard but ended up losing to the Lady Rams. This year’s players are Junior and Arianna Lehman. Sophomores: Gabby Kerr, Olivia Newhard, Emma Johns, Amani Yasin, Nora Schwarten. Freshmen: Emma Hunt, Joslynn Cellars, Bailey Dlugolinski, Charlotte Lard, Elizabeth Devlin, Nevaeh Braham. This year’s team captains were sophomore Nora Schwarten, along with returning captain sophomore Amani Yasin.
Joslynn Cellars stated, “Basketball is really one of those sports that you have to be mentally tough in because if you’re not, it can really affect how you play on the court.”
Bailey Dlugolinski commented, “High school basketball is a lot more challenging than middle school, but it pushes me to do better and do the best I can every time I step on the court.”
Some of the teams Varsity played this year were Chalker, Sebring, Springfield, Newton Falls, Columbiana, Western Reserve, and Southeast. The junior varsity team also played against most of these teams, but while the varsity played full games, they would only play two full quarters. Jackson-Milton Lady Jays started their season in gameplay against Chalker High School, where they came out victorious in a 50-21 win. We are super proud of our Lady Jays and how far the overall team has come this season!
