Every year Jackson-Milton has a volleyball tournament between the grades and teachers on the last day before spring break. This year it was 8th grade vs. freshmen, sophomores vs. juniors, and seniors vs. teachers. It is hosted by the student council. This year student council advisor, Miss Lynn, was the one who organized the event. Shirts are created for each grade for them to participate in the game and represent their team.
Miss Lynn explained the process, “I had to contact business to see who could create shirts for us. I then had to have a student council meeting to get the shirts picked. Then it came time to sell shirts. Lastly, we sold tickets and then had the game.”
Each game lasted 20 minutes long. The game could go past 25 points, so either team could win by making a comeback. The students and staff have a lot of fun participating.
Sophomore student Elijah Handrych explained, “I think the Spring Fling is a great thing that our school does, it’s a good way to have fun competition between grades and it is a fun experience for a lot of people.”
The students also enjoy watching the teachers play, Joy Mohr expressed, “The spring filing is a fun activity for the school. It is fun because of the competition between grades and it’s entertaining to watch the teachers play.”
One of the teachers, Mrs. Basile, talked about how she found the spring fling to be enjoyable, “I love watching all the grades play against each other. Everyone is so hyped up and having fun. I like playing against the seniors. I don’t have a particular position that I enjoy but I love the opportunity to play.”
Miss Lynn herself was happy to see how the students reacted to this event, “I liked seeing the enjoyment on all of the student’s faces when they were playing. I loved how much the freshman got into it with their hair and shrek character. I also loved seeing how excited the middle schoolers were to get to play.”
The spring fling this year turned out great, and was a fun last day for both the students and staff to go into spring break.
