Varsity baseball traveled to Cene Park Tuesday April 5th to take on McDonald in a MVAC matchup. After  railing McDonald 2-0 in the 5th inning the Blue Jays got timely hitting and erupted for 5 runs to take the lead. That was all the runs needed as two BlueJays pitchers shut the door on McDonald. Billy Sloan was the starter, he allowed 2 runs (1earned) over 5 innings while striking out seven batters and only surrendering four singles. Junior Classmate Aaren Romigh came in relief pitching the final two innings striking out five hitters to pick up the save. Offensively the Blue Jays were led by juniors Aaren Romigh and Owen McDevitt. Romigh had 2 hits and McDevitt had the timely hit in the fifth inning that resulted in 3 RBI’s.

On April 12th, Varsity baseball defeated Lowellville 14-3 in 6 innings. Junior Billy Sloan picked up the win pitching  6 innings striking out 10. Offensively, the Blue Jays were led by Sophomore Cayden Mitchell, Junior Owen McDevitt and Senior Logan Sokol each contributing 2 hits. McDevitt led the Bluejays with 3 RBI’s. Sokol and Mitchell each added a pair of RBI’s.

On April 22nd, the Blue Jays defeated Sebring in an MVAC double header by the scores of 7-0 and 13-3. Junior Owen McDevitt earned his second victory of the season by striking out 11 and surrendering 1 Hit. In game 2 the Blue Jays scored 13 runs on 10 hits. 8 different Blue Jays collected a hit in the contest. Juniors Aiden Pugh and Billy Sloan had multiple hits. Billy Sloan had 2 doubles and 3 RBI’s. Cayden Mitchell also earned his second victory on the mound by pitching a complete game tossing a 1 hitter while striking out 6. With the victory the Blue Jays improved to 6-2 and 4-1 in league play.

The Blue Jays defeated Lowellville on April 23rd 8-6. The Blue Jays were led by juniors Billy Sloan, Aaren Romigh and Aiden Pugh. Billy Sloan had 3 hits and Romigh had 2. Both Sloan and Romigh registered doubles. Aiden Pugh went 3-4 with 4 RBIs. Drew Sloan, Billy Sloan and Aaren Romigh combined to strike out 10 hitters while surrendering only 3 hits.

Scorekeepers were kept busy on May 4th during a high-scoring contest between the Blue Jays and Western Reserve Blue Devils Varsity where the Blue Jays prevailed 9-6. The Blue Jays got on the board in the second inning when Dominic Krol singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run. In the top of the third inning, Western Reserve Blue Devils Varsity tied things up at two when Connor Jones drew a walk, scoring one run. The Blue Jays pulled away for good with five runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Aaren Romigh drew a walk, scoring one run, Drew Sloan drew a walk, scoring one run, and Alex Rotuna singled on a 3-2 count, scoring three runs. Romigh took the win for the Blue Jays. The pitcher lasted five innings, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out eight and walking one. Owen McDevitt and Billy Sloan entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. The Blue Jays tallied six hits on the day. McDevitt and Caden Mitchell each collected multiple hits for Bluejays. Mitchell and McDevitt all had two hits to lead Bluejays. 

The Blue Jays won big over Western Reserve Blue Devils Varsity 7-1. The Blue Jays opened up scoring in the first inning, when Billy Sloan singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. The Blue Jays notched three runs in the seventh inning. Aiden Pugh, Drew Sloan, and Caleb Miller all contributed in the big inning with RBIs. Sloan took the win for the Blue Jays. The righty lasted seven innings, allowing six hits and one run while striking out 14. Sloan led the Blue Jays with three hits in four at bats. 

Despite seeing its four-run lead whittled down by the end, Bluejays still held off Newton Falls (OH) for an 8-7 victory on Monday. Newton Falls (OH) scored three runs in the failed comeback on a run in the sixth and an error in the seventh. Bats blistered as Bluejays collected four hits and Newton Falls (OH) tallied four in the high-scoring game. Newton Falls (OH) opened up scoring in the first inning. Powell drew a walk, scoring one run. The Blue Jays pulled away for good with three runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Owen McDevitt singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, an error scored one run for Blue Jays, and Aaren Romigh singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run. The Blue Jays scored three runs in the sixth inning. Billy Sloan and Logan Sokol contributed in the big inning with RBIs. Drew Sloan was on the mound for the Blue Jays. Sloan lasted one and one-third innings, allowing zero hits and three runs while striking out one.  McDevitt went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Bluejays in hits.

The Jays are sectional champs in their division. In the sectional final, the Jays beat Lowellville 10-0 in 6 innings. Aaren Romigh gave up 0 hits through 6 innings and had double-digit strikeouts. The Jays moved on to best Mineral Ridge 8-4 in the semifinal.
