Boys Basketball team 2019-20

The boys basketball team is headed into the new season with high expectations, as they work towards their ultimate goal, which according to Junior AJ Bouch, is simply to achieve and realize the best versions of themselves.

“Starting the year, we weren’t positive how good or bad we would be, but we saw potential to grow all around us,” says Bouch, “We really like one another and have good bonds, we know each other’s strengths and weaknesses which helps us understand the team so much more.”

The bonds between the team do appear strong, and it certainly is even more noticeable on the court. Players do not seem to stat-pad, and they play unselfishly, quick to pass the ball to the open man.

The team is coached by Steve Procopio, who coached last year also. That team, according to Maxpreps, was 3-20. When asked if this record from last year motivates this years squad, Senior Kent Gross had some strong feelings. “Our record from last year is just that, from last year, we aren’t worried about our program and I have faith in this team to really surprise some people,” stated Gross.  Kent Gross was voted Captain on this team for a reason, there is no man better at hyping up his team.

This sentiment is reflected through the whole team, who really argue that Kent is the heart and soul of their practices and is more morally supportive through the games more than anyone else. Lots of the guys mention leadership, as a strength this year.

“Now don’t get us wrong, players really led us last year and pushed us to be our best selves, but the difference this year comes not from the top-down but from the bottom-up,” says Junior Mason Robison, “We really are more mature than we were as underclassmen, and the team has really grown up together.”

Junior Frank Prozy agreed, “This is my first year, and I really feel as if I’m already part of a great community and team, and I can’t wait to see where this year takes us.”

Good luck and best wishes for a great season!
