Introduction to the Lady Jays 2019-20 Basketball Season

Dacota Simons

The Jackson-Milton girls basketball team season opener is today at home starting off with JV at 5:30 pm and varsity follows. Before the season started, they scrimmaged Minerva.

Their first three games they play Southeast at home, East Palenstine at home, and Jackson-Miltons rivals Western Reserve at home as well.  Coming off of a record of 12-13 they are looking to break into the season with a few wins.

Abby Spalding was asked about some of the team goals for the season and she said, “ We want to push the ball up the floor, have better defense, and most of all beat Reserve.”

The starting 5 include Chelsea Williams, Courtney Mercer, Julia Bogden, Abby Spalding, and Grace McDevitt. This starting 5 have many team goals and goals for themselves for this season. Out of the starting 5, there are 4 starting seniors. This being their last year to play, they would really love to succeed and possibly make it to the next level.

As a senior player the goal for Abby Spalding is to play better defense and to eventually get her 1,000 points. She plans to go onto college and hopefully play basketball there.  As her senior season kicks off, she is still not decided where she wants to go as, hopefully, her options continue to grow.

This season for the girls basketball team, as a Jackson-Milton student seeing this program filled with my friends, I would love to see them succeed. As for the rest of the team, they too have the same goals.

There are 6 seniors on the basketball team. Courtney Mercer, Grace McDevitt, Abby Spalding, Julia Bogden, Alyssa Deak, and Megan Fultz.  Our community and school wish the best of luck to the Lady Jays!
