NHS sponsors Hygiene Drive for Veterans

Joseph Williams

NHS (National Honors Society) has been doing great things for Jackson-Milton and the community. NHS helps in many different ways. Many veterans go without daily supplies that every human needs. These necessities are given to the veterans by raising awareness throughout the school.

NHS has given every classroom a box to get as many hygiene supplies as possible. Doing this helps the veterans get what they need to stay healthy. Sadly, many veterans don’t have enough money to get these products, so NHS tries to help as much as they can. Each classroom doesn’t have a given amount they must donate, but many classrooms have donated a great amount.

Mrs. Reyes, advisor of NHS, states, “The National Honor Society is hosting a Hygiene Drive to collect needed items to donate to the Veterans Hospital of Youngstown. The event started in October and ends November 15th. The homeroom in the Middle School and High School that collect the most items will be given a donut party courtesy of National Honor Society.”

There is a box in each homeroom for students to put supplies in.  Every week, NHS members go and check on the boxes and to cheer on the homeroom they were assigned to. Once the collection is over, either a representative from the Veterans Hospital will come to J-M to pick up the items or NHS members will deliver the items to the hospital. The event brings awareness to the students of J-M that the Veterans Hospitals need the public’s donations in order to effectively help Veterans.

Congratulations to the winning classes:  Mrs. Saculla’s first period class at the high school and Mr. Weidenthal’s first period class at the middle school.  Thank you to all of the students who brought in the much needed items to donate.
