Veterans day is November 11, 2019.  NHS and student council take a major role in our Veterans Day assembly every year.  Students involved with NHS will pass out poppies and programs to everyone who attends; students in student council will work the lunch in.

Mrs. Reyes is in charge of organizing the event. The Veterans Day assembly will start at 9am and will be held in the high school cafeteria. After the assembly, there will be a luncheon for veterans and their families.

Mrs. Reyes states, “I think it’s important because we should always honor our veterans, past and present, for the sacrifices that they make for our country.”

During this assembly the Chaplain John Chittock will be reading a poem called “I am a Veteran.”

Every year we hope that high numbers of past and present veterans attend so we can honor them for everything they do.

As a member of NHS, Katie Mitchell will be handing out programs, she says, “I think it’s important to honor the people who fought to keep this country safe, I have relatives in the army, past and present, and it’s important to acknowledge all they do for us.  I’m looking forward to working the assembly because it’s an annual thing here at JMHS and I’m happy to be a part of something that means a lot to the veterans.”

As Veterans Day is coming soon, students and staff are hard at work getting ready to prepare this event for our veterans and make it as perfect as we can for everyone who attends.
