JM Student Council holds first Blood Drive of the year
November 21, 2019
Every year Jackson-Milton hosts a blood drive for people in school and around the community to come together for a good cause. This year’s blood drive was held on Oct. 10th. Mrs. Russo is in charge of the blood drive every year along with members of Student Council who help organize, set up, and tear down.
This year they had about 20 people donate between students and staff and members of the community.
Mrs Russo looks forward to this event every year, she says, “We are in need of blood and one donation can save up to three lives.”
The students who worked this year’s blood drive were Courtney Mercer, Katie Mitchell, Anthony Terranova, Micheal French, Frankie Prozy, Grace McDevitt, AJ Bouch, and Noah Kramer.
Mrs. Russo also says, “Student council decides to host two blood drives a year because with just having 30 people donate a year we would save over 400 lives.”
There is also a scholarship that comes along with the blood drive. The scholarship is for $1,000 dollars and is awarded to the student who recruits the most people to donate. This event helps the members of student council come together and learn skills such as teamwork, responsibility, and work ethics. Mrs. Russo and members of Student Council look forward to the upcoming spring blood drive in May and hope to see many more members of the community and staff/students donate.
