2019 JM Soccer Team

The Jackson-Milton soccer team started their season in the beginning of August.  They are coached by Trina and Criag Fetkovich. Their last game was Tuesday night and they fell to Brookfield 5-0.   They took on the Columbiana clippers on Thursday September 12th.

Junior Jenna Jones starts for the team and states, “I think this year we are a young team and we will have to put in a lot of work but I think we will have a good year.”   Jenna Jones also states motivation for the team by saying,  “Wins don’t always come from the score, they come from the heart and dedication”

This year the Jays only have one senior, Noah Davis. He has played for the Jackson-Milton soccer team for all 4 years of high school.

At the beginning of the season the team votes for captains, this year the captains were James Simkins, Brandon Strickland, and Austin Stanke. They plan to lead the team and help the team as much as possible this year. Taking on the position of a team captain is a big role and takes a lot of leadership to accomplish.

They have had a rough start to the season because of how many young players they have. The more work put it in over the season many players gain experience in the games, the Jays will improve slowly but surely.

The Jays put in work every night after school for two hours even take time out of their Friday nights to attend practice.

Jackson-Milton soccer has risen to new heights every game they’ve played. This skilled team made up of several hard working players has already taken a win this season. They have a great defensive end and fight hard when they play their games. Their record is currently 1-7.

Freshman Kayna Yasher has helped build this team and is currently the team’s best defender.

“She is definitely a determined young lady,” says Craig Fetkovich, the head coach of the team. “She puts forth 110% effort every single time for everything. Whether it be on the soccer field, school, she’s just a team motivator and an extremely hard worker.”

Kylee Fetkovich has also made this team a more stable, hardworking group of athletes. Being the coach’s daughter, she sets high expectations for herself.

“It’s always important to work hard,” Kylee says with pride, “You will never know what your limits are or what you will be able to accomplish without the drive and the motivation to get better.”

Bianca Gancarz and Kayna Yasher have contributed to the success of this team in terms of sportsmanship, modesty, and determination.

“We are very lucky to have these three amazing girls that know how to play soccer and not only that but represent their team well. Kayna and Bianca are probably the sweetest girls but yet most competitive I’ve ever seen. If you put those two on the soccer field, they’ll tear things up real real fast,” laughs Fetkovich.

So what is the team’s goal for the season?

“Just to keep improving,” says Yasher. “I think if we truly work together as a team in all our games we can rack in some wins this season.”

The soccer teams season ended on Saturday October  12 which just so happened to be their senior night. They played Wellsville High School at 10 am. In soccer, every school makes the playoffs no matter their record. So for the first playoff game the Jackson-Milton Blue Jays would go head to head with Newton Falls. The team played hard but  lost to Falls 3-0.

Their final record was 3 wins, 12 losses, and 1 tie. The team was led by senior Noah Davis who was the leading soccer all  season with 8 goals. His final stats were 8 goals, 1 assist, and 12 steals. Noah was invited to play in the All-star game on November 3rd to play along side other athletes who also had a great year. After this all star game Noah would like to continue to the next level to play college soccer as he has already visited a few college.

The Jackson-Milton Blue Jays were a very young team with graduating only one senior. This could be a good thing for the program. With the team being so young, they have time to develop together. Not only does this build chemistry but it helps the coach in terms of knowing what his athletes’ weaknesses and strengths are.  In turn, he can try to put his best product on the field. In the years to come they would love to improve this past season’s record and go on to win a few playoff games as well.

Good luck in the future!
