Is College Credit Plus (CCP) for you?

Nicholas Dolak

College? Already? Well, College Credit Plus is a great way to get a head start on college, before you even go. Did you know sometimes with CCP you can jumpstart a whole year?

There are a few restrictions, however. CCP requires you to have a certain score on the ACT/SAT or accuplacer. One of the biggest questions is “how do I sign up?”

Well to get in CCP, you must enter a letter of intent to Ms. Wiery by April 1st, 2019, or else you cannot participate. Also, your tests score must be at a certain level.

Moreover, Ms Wiery states, “At Jackson-Milton we do a blended-online course with Eastern Gateway, some parts of the class are online and other parts you may have to go to the university.”

may also apply at YSU, Kent Trumbull, almost anywhere as long as you can get transportation there or be able to do their online classes.

And no, you do not have to take extra classes. Ms. Wiery replaces your high school courses with the CCP courses you take. For example, if you are taking biology through CCP, you will not have to take it in high school.

Ms Wiery stated at the meeting on November 20th, “I’ve seen many kids fail, and many succeed with flying colors. This is going to require a lot of work, which is why you shouldn’t do it if you don’t think you’re ready.”

Clearly, you have to have a certain level of maturity to do CCP. Overall, College Credit Plus is a great program for those who are ready.

Next, College Credit Plus is not for everybody. You have to be determined and have the maturity level to do it. While Ms. Wiery does not test you on this, she will advise you if she thinks you aren’t ready. Many people have failed, and those grades stay on your college manuscript forever. Also, if you decide to withdraw early, you will have to reimburse Jackson-Milton as they are the ones paying for you to do this.

I discussed with Freshman Maddie Moore what she expects from CCP, as she plans to join. Moore claims, “I think it’s a good opportunity for me. I want to be a heart surgeon so any advancements I can get, I’ll take.”
