Lady Jays 2018-19
March 7, 2019
Basketball is a very physical sport and could get extremely intense. There are two teams with five players against five others. Basketball can be played indoor and outdoors. It is a very cool sport to watch and play. At Jackson-Milton they have a boys basketball team and a girls basketball team. JM has an overall record of 12-13, and a Conference record of 8-6. The Lady Jays had 2 players named to the 2019 All-Northeast Ohio Inland All-District Team.
Abigail Spalding (Jr.)- 3rd Team All-District
Grace McDevitt (Jr.)- Honorable Mention All-District
Player Kelsie Taylor a sophomore at Jackson-Milton says, “I love being part of this girls team. Basketball is a very active sport and it’s very fun to play. For us we practice all week and if we don’t have practice we have a game. Everyday we get better and better, we show up to practice, we are all focused and we play like it’s our last time being out on that court.”
Player Dana Saunders also a sophomore at Jackson Milton says, “I believe that we are going to have a good season this year. We lost three good seniors which is half of our starting line up. But we have a lot of potential and I can’t wait to show people what we’re made of. Junior varsity is ready for their season and they have a lot of potential as well. This season is going to be one to enjoy.”
The girls are putting up a fight this year. There is only one senior this year and her name is Ashley Cameron. Ashley is the team captain since she’s the only senior. She states that, “I can’t wait to see how far the team gets and she hopes for a great year.”
Also Abby Spalding states, “ We work so well together and we all look out for each other and it’s looking like a good year for us.” Over all the girls feel like it’s going to be a good year and they can’t wait to get further in the season.
Coach Kenny states, “ I believe in my girls because they come to every practice and they work so hard for their team and my captain Ashley is doing a great job.” He also states, “ The girls are so confident this year and so am I. I believe in my girls and they are gonna do great this year.”
This year the team is came out with a whole new starting lineup, these girls have never played together but they are starting to come together and find a rhythm.
Junior Megan Fultz says, “ It has been tough losing more than half the starting lineup but we all know what needs to be done it’s just putting it all together and eventually being able to feel each other and count on one another like it was with last year’s team.”
Also sophomore Dana Saunders says, “ The record may not show it but this team is improving day by day, we all have potential we just have to work as a team.”
As you can see the Lady Jays are improving everyday and becoming what they were a year ago.
