Cheerleading Season 2018

Brianna Shannon

Being a Cheerleader is more than just spiriting on sidelines for your school football and basketball team.  It’s more than a team, it’s a family where you build your bond through all the long hours and days you spend with each other.  The Jackson-Milton Cheerleaders compete at competitive competitions and have been very successful to this point.

So far the Cheerleaders have won the title of Grand Champions, Series Champions, and as well as State Champions.  I am apart of this Jackson-Milton Cheerleading team. We plan on striving to become better than we were last year! A lot of time, effort, and hard work from practicing at 3 hour long practices led us to these accomplishments of ours.

Instead of having a high school and middle school team, this year we will be having a Black and a Blue team. On the Black team, it is the more elite cheerleaders who can grasp the tougher routines. As well as on the Blue team, it’s a more of a learning team where they can develop the skills they will be needing.

Senior, Johanna Burnside states, “Competing gives me something to look forward too.  Plus you get another family to be apart of with this team.”

We are not only a team, but a family when we are together. To fund our competitions we do fundraisers together that raise us money for the things we will need throughout the year. The fundraisers include our Car Wash, Golf Outing, 50/50 Raffles, and selling the Homecoming and Pink Out shirts. While doing these fundraisers, we earn enough money to be able to fund our competitions and the things we will need to be able to make this season happen.

Senior, Jordan Stratton states, “We compete to show we are more than just cheerleaders who spirit on sidelines. We became the cheerleaders who the other competing team are afraid to go up against, and that is success to me.” Jordan has a point, we strive to become the best we possibly can. We want to be better than what people think.

Head coach Megan White states, “If you put in all your all and take time to practice, you will have success.”

These words are the truth. If you strive to be even better than you believe, you will see a change.  Cheerleading has taught me many things and I am grateful to be apart of this team.
