Camp Fitch

Nick Scarl

It is that time of year where Jackson-Milton takes their fifth grade class to Camp Fitch. This camp is a tradition of many schools including Jackson-Milton. Camp Fitch is open year-round for kids of any age. The camp is located in North Springfield, Pennsylvania and sits right on Lake Erie. It is packed with all sorts of fun and educational activities for the kids.

It is important to the camp that the kids are educated while they are there. The children are split up into five different groups and go to different challenges and classes throughout the day, these activities include things such as rock wall climbing, challenge courses, orienteering, archery, and candle making. Within these activity periods the kids all get together for a class where they learn about different things, such as past native american tribes and their traditions, different types of traps, and how they farmed and made food for themselves.

Senior chaperone Nick Scarl had this to say about the activity periods, “These activity periods really help the kids develop their social skills and learn how to encourage each other and work together. The kids go through a challenge course and its really helps them learn their leadership and teamwork skills.”

The kids had a lot of fun on the trip and were sad to be leaving. These kids will take everything they learned at Camp Fitch and now take it with them as they grow into teenagers.
