January 10, 2018
At Jackson-Milton they have a new club going on and it is the Robotics Club. The Blue Jay robotic team competed at their first competition in the FIRSTTech Challenge. The teams for this challenge are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head to head challenge in an alliance format. The teams are guided by their adult coaches and mentors and the students develop stem skills and practice engineering principles.
The challenge took place at Austintown Middle School on Saturday December 16th, 2017. The members of the team are freshman Garrik Gatana, Joshua Demski, 8th grader Ryan Higgins, 7th Graders Camelia Blackmon and Garrett Bueno, who are coached by Stephen Mohr. The team’s robot was ranked 11th out of 24 teams. It was the first competition as a real team and they are in process of rebuilding a new robot and adding things from seeing others robots at the competition to make it more efficient and make improvement for the next competition.
