Jackson-Milton has hosted its first ever Varsity and Junior Varsity boys basketball tournament sponsored by Spitzer Chevrolet and Burger King. The boys basketball tournament was on December 22nd and 23rd. It included your Jackson-Milton Blue Jays, Columbiana Clippers, Mogador Wildcats, and Maplewood.

The Varsity Blue Jays took a tough loss to Maplewood 65-31 the first round. Mogador went on to win the Varsity tournament.

The junior varsity team beat Maplewood 49-23. Freshman Cole Grope scored 13 points that game. Then they had played Mogador the next day and fell short 46-32. Mogador went on to win the JV tournament.

The tournament was sponsored by Burger King and Spitzer. There was also an eggnog drinking contest at one of the halftimes that was won by Nick Scarl.

JM Basketball player Joey Williams says “The tournament was really fun and I feel we should have one every year.”

The athletic director Kevin Hogue was asked if this would be a yearly event and he stated, “Any time that you can get 700 people to come into your school it is a positive for everyone involved. We will be doing this again next year and are looking at doing another similar event for boys basketball in the next few years.”
