Study Hall has new rules in place for academic success

Abigail Spalding, Staff Writer

Starting this year, all study halls have a new standard set of rules such as no talking, no playing games on the computers, and that each student has to have something to work on. In the past there had been some problems with games and playing cards so those were outlawed as well.

Mr. Vega explained that some students would ask others who had homework to play games with them. Wanting to have fun and not be excluded, that student would decide to put their homework aside for that night. Then the student would come to school without their homework done. Overall, games are not allowed in all study halls so that every student can get their homework done.

While some students were upset about the new study hall rules, everyone seems to get their work done.

A problem some students are having with these new regulations is that it has to be silent. Most students like working in groups on classes they have together and enjoy talking to each other.  However, students will have opportunities to socialize with one another during their lunch periods.

Miss Bauman has other thoughts on silent study halls, she states, “When my study hall is quiet, it’s much easier for all of the students to focus on their work.”

Overall, while some students think the new study hall rules are a punishment, it’s quite the contrary. Mr. Vega and all of the study hall teachers want every student to get a chance to get their work done so they can be successful in their classes.
