JMMS Students show success at Power of the Pen
March 20, 2017
The Power of the Pen competition is a competitive and creative writing competition that was held for the seventh and eighth graders from across the county. Several students from Jackson-Milton Middle School attended this event. Mrs. Abe had thought it would be a good idea for the students to compete this year.
There were a combined 12 students that participated in both seventh and eighth grade. Seven of the 12 students that had participated became regional qualifiers. One student (Anthony Terranova) will be going to State competition.
The students are given a prompt that they write about for the next 40 minutes. They are to put as much detail into their work as possible to be scored by the judges. There are 3 rounds total of 40 minutes each round. Ms.Tortora’s goal for the kids during this competition was for them to have fun and do well throughout the competition.
The districts were held at Lordstown on January 28th, Anthony Terranova will be going to state at Wooster on May 25th and May 26th. Congratulations to all who attended and good luck at State, Anthony!
