The Jackson-Milton boys basketball team, after having tough season last year, have very high goals coming into this season with a new coaching staff led by head coach Steve Procopio.

The Jays then went on to win two straight games against Crestview High School and Heartland Christian High School.

The day after their win to Heartland Christian, the Jays lost to a very impressive United team with a final score of 76-56. The Blue Jays feel they did not play as they usually do and hope to get that back in their next game against East Palestine.

The Jays earned three additional wins against the teams of Leetonia, Lisbon, and Lordstown.

On January 27, the Blue Jays basketball team hosted the annual Trophy Game vs. rivals Western Reserve. The Jays walked into the game with a record of 5-10 and the Devils with a record of 12-2. Although the Jays lost, they gave a tough and hard fought battle. The score of the game at halftime was 26-25, Reserve being up by just one point. This game was very close and back and forth until the final minutes of the 3rd quarter. At this point in the game, one of the Jays starters and role players, Noah Laster, twisted his ankle and was injured. After some rest on the bench though, Laster got back into the game but by this point the lead may have just been too far to come back from. The Jays were losing by close to 30 points. But after a good run of scoring valuable points and tough defense they brought the game back within 15. The final score of the game was 73-51. This trophy game sure will be one to remember.

The Blue Jays faced off against Southern Local where they were defeated with a final of 73-70, they were led by seniors Noah Laster and Johnathan Voland.  It was an exciting game to watch.

After a tough loss against Southern, the Blue Jays battled against the Lowellville Rockets but fell short with a final score of 71-50.

The Jays  were getting ready for a tough game against the McDonald Blue Devils. On February the 7th, the team played the second ranked team in the state, McDonald and Armstrong Channel 20 taped the game which is still being broadcast on their channel.  It was a packed house for, “Beach Night,” and the crowd was supportive of our boys all night.  The student-section was packed as all students in grades K-12 were granted free admission.  The final score was 94-67.

The Jays would travel to the heart of the Sebring next to battle the Trojans.  The Blue Jays were ready and were in it to win, but after a very exhausting first half they lost with a final of 63-54.

The boys team will finish off their season at Mineral Ridge on the 17th and then host Springfield on the 24th for senior night where they will honor our 4 seniors.

The boys will kick off the OHSAA state tournament at Southern Local on the 28th at Southern Local starting at 7:00 PM.

The boys basketball team has a 4-13 record giving them the 10th seed in the OHSAA basketball Playoffs.
