Red Ribbon Week promotes positive choices
November 8, 2016
Every year JMHS SADD, and other schools across the nation, host Red Ribbon week. This is began in 1985 when DEA agent Enrique Camarena was kidnapped, tortured and murdered. SADD represents good decision making for students and people across the nation. It brings everyone closer with the themes the students put on and boosts the school spirit even more.
This year the students came up with very exciting themes for the week. On Halloween everybody wore their costumes! On Tuesday the students wore red to symbolize the entire week as it is the national color for SADD. On Wednesday the students wore their favorite jerseys to represent their favorite teams. On Thursday the students were feeling a little lazy and wore their pajamas to school, “to be comfortable with who they are.”. Lastly, on Friday, the students wore blue to celebrate our Jays and wish them luck in the playoffs!
Throughout the week, the high school students traveled down to the elementary school to teach the younger kids about making smart decisions. It is very important that the students learn these values when they are young. The high schoolers had a big influence on the kids and they learned a lot from them.
