JM Students select Homecoming Court representatives

Zach Socha, Staff Writer

Homecoming is a school dance where there are multiple people chosen to represent their class on “Court.”  This group is chosen by their peers. To get a further understanding on how people have been chosen, nominees were interviewed. The students who are chosen are students that campaign or they are voted on by personality.  The court consists of 14 people: 2 freshmen, 2 sophomores, 2 juniors, and 10 seniors.

There are 7 boys and 7 girls. The two freshmen are Bailey Estes and Ryan Staton, the sophomores are Ashley Cameron and David Vega, the juniors are Robert Kleinknecht and Brooklyn Gallant.

The 10 seniors include: Zach Socha, Johnathan Voland, Mikey Spencer, Travis Tikkanen, Clayton Maskarinec, Sierra Huff, Katie Rago, Maggie Garland, Julissa Tomaino, and Tiffany Voland.

Freshmen nominees, Ryan Staton and Bailey Estes are both very excited to represent their class and attend their first homecoming. The are honored to be selected.

Sophomores Ashley Cameron and David Vega are also anticipating a fun evening. David Vega said, “It’s fun because I get to pick out another outfit.”  When asked how David thought he was chosen he said, “I don’t really know, I didn’t ask anyone to vote for me.” He said he was surprised. To David,  Homecoming Court means “people like me enough to vote for me.” He has been on Homecoming court twice, his freshman year and now his sophomore year. David Vega will be attending Homecoming Court with Ashley Cameron.

The Junior Nominees are Taylor Kleinknecht and Brooklyn Gallant.  Taylor was asked how he accumulated enough votes to be elected for homecoming court. He stated that he is an “all around good guy.” Brooklyn said, “I don’t know, I guess my friends voted for me, I didn’t campaign.” This will be the first time on court for both juniors. They are both excited now to be on court representing their class. When asked what being on homecoming court meant to them,  Taylor said, “It means everything.”  Brooklyn said, “I get to ride in a nice car, wear a sash and get announced so it’s exciting.”

All of the senior nominees are excited and cannot wait for Friday night to be announced at the game. This is not the first time on court for Clayton Maskarinec or Katie Rago.  They are both excited to represent their class again.  Travis said being on court “means a lot and it’s nice to know people think of me in a positive way.”  None of the seniors really campaigned, they were selected by their peers for their personality and the friendships they have with their classmates. They feel happy about being selected and can’t wait for homecoming.

Students will attend practice for the big night at the field on Thursday, along with the band.

Homecoming Court nominees will participate in the parade, walk across the field with their parents and escorts, and have their biographies read before the game on Friday October 7.  They will also announce the king and queen at this time.

The dance will be held on Saturday October 8.
