Girls Golf swings into second year

Gabrielle Arquilla, Staff Writer

Golf is a sport focused on consistency, self-motivation, and confidence. This is the second year for the return of girls golf. The 2016 Jackson-Milton Girls Golf team is coached by Kelly Abe. This year there are six juniors including Brooklyn Gallant, Korie Gross, Madde Hyland, Maddie Marker, Jen Westfall, and Kelsie Daff. There is also one Sophomore and that is Hannah Pietro.

Their number 1 this year is Korie Gross, #2 Madde Hyland, #3 Brooklyn Gallant, #4 Kelsie Daff, #5 Jen Westfall, #6 Maddie Marker and Hannah had to sit out 10 matches due to being new to the school because of OHSAA regulations. They have six returning letterwinners from last year. Their home course is Meander Golf Course in North Jackson.

Their season started in July. Golf is the hardest sport to pick up on because you have to have confidence and concentration. The girls were three strokes from winning this year. They are still learning, but doing so much better from their first day, even from last year. The girls golf team has played at the Stambaugh and Riverside Golf Courses. The team has Sectionals at Pine Lakes on Wednesday. Golf looks like it would be an individual sport, but it is a team sport. The score is all on yourself, but for the final score for your team will depend on how concentrated, focused and self-motivated you are on that day.
