Winter Driving Safety

Driving in the winter time can be a very dangerous task. Many precautionary measures must be taken before you can just hop into your car and drive off. Such measures suggest starting your car prior to leaving, but never in an enclosed area like your garage. Doing so will make the inside of the car warm and also melt the frost and ice on your windshield, which will help you see as you drive. Also, always having a pair of gloves in your vehicle is always a good idea, as well is keeping blankets and more warm clothing in your trunk. You never know when you might break down and not have functioning heat.

Coasting over bridges is always suggested because bridges ice over much quicker than the road and pressing on the gas may cause your vehicle to fishtail and may even cause an accident. Another tip is to speed up and slow down with ease. Slamming on your gas may cause your tires to spin and slamming on your breaks may cause you to uncontrollably slide. It is also a good idea to increase the following distance between you and the car ahead of you because if they do suddenly stop and you slam on your breaks, you may slide into the rear end of their vehicle. Most importantly, always take your time when you drive, especially in winter conditions. Impatience is one of the most common reasons accidents occur. By following a few simple precautions and driving tips, you can have a much more safe winter!
