Snow Days

The weather in North Jackson has been very up and down lately, but for the past week the weather has been down right bitter. The students at Jackson-Milton have used four of their five given snow days before they have to make them up at the end of the year. After they use all five of their snow days, instead of getting out of school June eighth, the students will have to make up all the days after the school uses their fifth snow day.

Since the students get the day off of school, most students like to enjoy their time outside of the classroom doing various fun activities. For instance, Joe Williams states, “I enjoy my time away from the classroom by sitting in the house in jam jams while playing video games with my friends.”

His other classmate Shane Davis said something similar, he stated, “I also enjoy playing video games with my friends and sleeping most of the day away.”

Finally, student Abby Spalding states, “I enjoy having the day off by staying in the comfiest clothes possible while drinking hot cocoa and watching Netflix as well as sleeping.”

The superintendent of Jackson-Milton, Kirk Baker, has a hard job of deciding whether it is safe or not for the staff and students to attend school, Kirk Baker stated, “I usually check the weather channel and see what the temperature is, if the windchill is below 10, then chances are we’ll have a two hour delay, if the weather persists to be bad and the roads continue to be bad, we’ll most likely not have school.”

Overall, students rely on snow days throughout the year as a way of getting a much needed day of rest.
